Malda man alleges wife poured hot water, bit genitals after he tried stopping assault on his mother

A man in West Bengal’s Malda district has filed a police complaint alleging that his wife poured hot water on him and bit his genitals during a violent altercation. The incident took place on Monday in Meherpur under the jurisdiction of Old Malda police station, within the Yatradanga Gram Panchayat.

According to the written complaint submitted by 34-year-old Saddam Hussain, he was attacked after he tried to intervene when his wife, Najima, was allegedly assaulting his mother, Nayna Banu, with a stick. Saddam claimed that Najima first threw hot water on his chest and stomach and then attempted to bite his genitals. Local residents rushed in upon hearing his screams and took him to Maulpur Rural Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment for serious burn injuries.

Saddam, a small-scale businessman, has been married to Najima for eight years. The couple has one son. In his complaint, he stated that Najima had been mentally and physically harassing his family members—particularly his mother and younger sister—for the past few months. He alleged that Najima wanted to live separately and had been trying to drive his family members out of the house. “She was trying to throw them out of the house and start living separately,” Saddam said in his statement.

Najima has also lodged a counter-complaint with the police. She denied the allegations and claimed that the confrontation was limited to an argument over household expenses. She accused Saddam and his family of false allegations and stated that she was not involved in any physical attack.

Local gram panchayat member Mizan Ali, after visiting Saddam, stated that the injuries indicated a physical assault and demanded proper police investigation. Police have registered complaints from both sides and initiated an inquiry. Statements are being recorded, and further steps will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
